Send Anonymous Tips, Get Real-Time Alerts from Hackettstown Police

Nixle Engage offers more options for residents to stay safe, police sergeant says.

Hackettstown Police will start using Nixle Engage to increase communications between residents and law enforcement.

According to Sgt. Darren Tynan, Nixle Engage will use text messages and email, as the basic Nixle program does, but also allows residents to submit tips via the Nixle website or text messaging. "Individuals can send a tip to 888-777 and and in the message part you must first type “TIP HACKPD” then your tip," Tynan said.

Police will be able to text back if they need more information, though the sender will remain anonymous.

Active alerts will also include information from Google Maps and Google search results, and residents will be able to find active Nixle alerts using the Google search bar. "Search a location or keyword triggering an active Nixle alert, [and] the alert will be visible at the top of search results with the ability to click for more information," Tynan said.

Also, Android phone users with the Google Now app who sign up for Nixle will get an alert sent directly to their phone through the app instead of receiving a text message.

Messages sent via Nixle Engage can include traffic advisories, weather alerts, missing person alerts and other public safety announcements, Tynan said.

Hackettstown residents can sign up for Nixle Engage by texting “07840” to 888-777 (to only receive information on cell phones) or by visiting www.nixle.com, www.hackettstownpd.net or www.hackettstown.net
