Woman Struck, Killed By Car Friday Night: Hackettstown Police

Brenda Sargeant was killed Saturday while attempting to cross the street, police said

HACKETTSTOWN, NJ - A 72-year-old Mansfield Township woman was struck and killed while crossing the street on Friday night, according to the Hackettstown Police Department.

Police said that shortly before 5:15 p.m. the Hackettstown police and Hackettstown
Rescue Squad responded to Willow Grove Street near the American Legion for a report of a struck pedestrian.

Authorities determined that Sharon Graham, 62, of Independence Township was traveling north in her 2016 Honda Willow Grove Street when she struck Brenda Sargeant, who was attempting to cross the roadway heading east.

Sargeant was transported to Hackettstown Medical Center and was later pronounced dead, police said.

Willow Grove Street between Connie Terrace and Cindy Terrace was closed for approximately 2 and a half hours while the Hackettstown Detective Bureau, Mount Olive Township Fire Marshal and Warren County Road Department worked at the scene, police said.

The crash remains under investigation.
