Zombies Will Come Alive to Teach Dead Makeup to Students

Aspiring performers will learn trauma-style makeup skills during library workshop.

Typically, a woman does not like to hear her makeup makes her look dead.

But that may be exactly what some ladies are going for after they participate in a makeup application workshop led by zombies and vampires. (Not real ones, of course.)

The Warren County Library, in Belvidere, is hosting a morbidly-themed workshop June 1 at 10 a.m. that will offer enthusiasts of the undead and aspiring performers an opportunity to learn how to apply makeup with trauma simulation. The 90-minute workshop will be hands-on and led by Erk Gaden, a Centenary College Theater program graduate and Centenary Stage Company teaching artist.

Students will learn makeup basics and some will even become part of a performance reminiscent of the hit AMC television show "The Walking Dead." Time-depending, students will also learn makeup techniques for animal, fantasy and old age characters.

The zombie makeup workshop is the final lesson in a four-part series at the library geared toward older teens and adults. Other workshops included "Singing for Theatre," "Stage Combat," "Acting" and a more lively theatrical makeup class. The workshops have been partially funded by the Warren County Cultural & Heritage Commission.
