5 Things You Need to Know Today

The board of commissioners are scheduled to vote on water and sewer tax increase.

  1. The Borough Board of Commissioners are expected to approve measure tonight that will increase water and sewer taxes by a total of 10 cents per 1,000 gallons of water use. The increase to $4.80 for water and $2.30 for sewer and will raise the average quarterly payment for a resident from $139 to $142. That’s based on an average of up to 20,000 gallons of water usage per quarter-year. The ordinance was approved on first reading last month, but the final passage was delayed until today. The commissioners said the tax increase has traditionally been done yearly to pay for services and road construction projects that involve new water and sewer lines. The commissioners meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the municipal hall.
  2. The Haddonfield municipal alliance committee will meet on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the municipal hall. The municipal alliance mission statement is to: “To promote a culture of wellness in Haddonfield by sponsoring and supporting activities and events that promote healthy behaviors, foster enlightened attitudes, warn of the perils of addiction, and condemn irresponsible  practices.”
  3. The Haddonfield transportation and pedestrian safety committee will meet on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the borough library at 60 N. Haddon Ave. 
  4. The Haddon Fortnightly women’s club will meet on Friday at 1 p.m. at the Fortnightly at 301 Kings Highway East. The Fortnightly is a “civic and social club for women and is a member of the New Jersey State Federation of Women's Clubs,” according to its mission statement.
  5. Karoake Night at Haddonfield United Methodist Church on Saturday from 6 to 10 p.m. Dinner begins at 6 p.m. and karoake starts at 7 p.m.. Admission is $10 for adults in advance ($12 at the door), $5 for kids ($7 at the door) and children 3 and under are free.
