Get Ready for School with a Card from the Rohrer Memorial Library Library

As students go back to school this September, the Rohrer Memorial Library wants to make sure that everyone of them has one of the most important school supplies – a library card. 

Students can rely on the library for materials, programs and services that support academic achievement.   It’s useful to know the library’s website provides resources for homework help accessible online from any Internet connection, 24/7 and now, through a new partnership with Tutor.com, library customers will have access to the service’s online tutors.

The library offers Kid’s Zone where elementary students and their parents can get homework help in a variety of forms while high school students can find information and get homework help on different subjects in the Teen Space section. Both Kid’s Zone and Teen Space can be reached by going to the library’s home page at  www.camdencountylibrary.org/ and clicking on Using the Library at the top.

According to the American Library Association, public libraries are the number one place for free Internet access, an important resource for families without a home Internet connection when  more and more schools  require students to use the Internet to complete their homework.

“Our libraries provide all types of students with the tools they need to succeed,” says Camden County Library Director Linda Devlin. She points out the library’s new partnership with Tutor.com to offer its services free to customers with a library card. The service that provides online tutors is anticipated to be available through the library’s website.

“It’s just one more reason all Camden County households should get a library card,” stressed Devlin.

Each month throughout the year the library offers scores of programs and events designed for students of all ages. Everything from story times, teen book clubs, craft workshops and special programs like an annual teen video festival held just a few weeks ago at the Voorhees branch.  

“Libraries provide young readers with exciting and engaging programs that make learning fun. Now more than ever, a library card is the most important school supply of all,” says Devlin.

Getting a library card is easy.  Residents of Haddon Township are eligible for a free library-system card. Haddonfield residents are not eligible for a free card because they have a municipal library and don't pay the county library tax. Owners of properties or businesses that operate in a member community are also eligible as well as others.

A list of member communities is available on the website, and residents of non-member communities can get a library card on a subscription-fee basis, which is explained on the website. Residents can also visit one of the eight CCLS branches located in Bellmawr, Camden (Ferry Ave. and Rutgers), Gloucester Township, Haddon Township, Merchantville, Winslow or Voorhees to find out about joining the system and getting a card.

The American Library Association, the New Jersey Library Association and libraries across the country have designated September as Library Card Sign-up Month since 1987 to remind parents that a library card is an essential school supply.
