Haddonfield Launches Safe Driving Campaign as Schools Open

Officials urge drivers to stay within the speed limits and look out for children.

Haddonfield public safety officials have launched a campaign to reinforce safe driving for the reopening of school.

Not only do parents need to practice driving safely, but teens need to be reminded as well.

"If you are a parent of a driving teen, talk with them about driving safely and
obeying all traffic laws.  By using common sense, the first day of school will be a little safer," a statement from the borough said.

Please keep in mind the following tips for safe driving:

• The speed limit in Haddonfield is 25 mph – DRIVE 25

• Using your cell phone, or texting while driving is against the law- don’t do it

• Do not park in prohibited areas around schools.  Haddonfield is a walking school
district.  Traffic congestion reduces the visibility of students walking and riding to
school.

• Drivers must yield to pedestrians in a crosswalk

• Watch for bikes- if your child rides a bicycle to school, require that they wear a
properly-fitted bicycle helmet on every ride

• Leave ten minutes early to allow enough time to reach your destination without
speeding

• Come to a complete stop. Research shows more than one third of drivers roll
through stop signs in school zones or neighborhoods. Always come to a complete
stop, checking carefully for children on sidewalks and in crosswalks before
proceeding.

• Buckle up – wearing your safety belt can save your life
