High Winds Knock Out Power and Cable, Down Trees

Wind gusts reached 50 mph on Saturday, but have died down on Sunday.

Update, 1:30 p.m.: Comcast spokeswoman Alisha Martin said most service issues "have been directly related to commercial power outages, and for the vast majority of people, service should be restored as power comes back on to their homes."

Comcast crews are working to fix remaining issues. Martin said any Comcast customer who still experiences problems after power has been restored should call 1-800-COMCAST (1-800-266-2278).

PSEG's outage map shows that 1-500 customers still remain without power as of 1:15 p.m., Sunday.

This weekend’s powerful winds knocked out power, telephone and cable service in parts of the borough, and brought down several trees.

Through the online community message board, HaddonfieldTalks, residents reported Comcast outages that affected cable, phone and Internet service.

Bill Tourtellotte, a resident in the 400 block of Peyton Avenue, said Sunday morning his cable, Internet and cable-based phone had been out for more than 24 hours.

"It's no wind now and the cable is still out," said Tourtellotte, president of the Haddonfield Civic Association.

Tourtellotte posted a message on Haddonfield Talks, a local Internet bulletin board, on Sunday from his cell phone. Shortly before 11 a.m., his cable service was restored.

"Can we chalk it up to the many wonders of HaddonfieldTalks?" Tourtellotte posted immediately on the bulletin board.

The winds also knocked out power to several households in the borough. As of noon Sunday, PSEG reported 1-500 customers were without power.

Tourtellotte also said he saw a large tree toppled at the intersection of West End and Redman avenues around 4 p.m. Saturday.

Dave Watson, the borough supervisor of public works, said Sunday he knew of at least two, and maybe three, trees that fell on Saturday. His crews cleared the debris.

Saturday brought sustained wind of 20-30 mph to Haddonfield. Gusts reached 50 mph at times. The winds diminished noticeably on Sunday, falling to 8-13 mph, according to the National Weather Service.
