Drop Off Your Medications ... In your Car

County's first drive-in collection taking place in Hillsborough.

Have unused, unwanted and potentially dangerous medications but not sure how to dispose of them in the proper way? No problem. This Saturday you can dispose of them ... without even getting out of your car.

RX Mission Drive-in/Drop-Off is being held at the South County Public Works Garage in Hillsborough at 410 Roycefield Road from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The program is being hosted by the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, in conjunction with the Somerset County Solid Waste Management Division’s Household Hazardous Waste program.

The sheriff's office says more than seven million Americans currently abuse prescription drugs, according to the 2009 Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration’s National Survey on Drug Use and Health. The office also said each day approximately 2,500 teens use prescription drugs to get high for the first time, according to the Partnership for a Drug Free America.

The office says studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including the home medicine cabinet.
