Hillsborough Township Officially Dedicates Veterans Way
Veterans Way was officially dedicated following the township's annual Memorial Day Parade.

Hillsborough Township’s Veterans Way was officially dedicated at a ribbon cutting ceremony last month.
The ribbon cutting took place on Saturday, May 23, following the annual Memorial Day Parade. The township hosted a number of events on that Satuday beginning at 7:30 a.m., including the Salute to Veterans Breakfast, the unveiling of the Monument on Veterans Way, the Memorial Day Parade and Garden of Honor Ceremony.
Following the parade, the Hillsborough Township Committee, in addition to 2015 Parade Grand Marshal and World War II veteran Leo Hornsby, cut the ribbon on Veterans Way, the township said. The roadway was dedicated as Veterans Way last fall, but the final work, including a brick and granite monument, was completed prior to the Memorial Day celebrations, according to Hillsborough Township.

Hornsby, a township resident who served as a radio engine specialist and aerial engineer for the United States Army, was the grand marshal for the Township’s 2015 Memorial Day Commemoration Ceremony. After returning home from World War II, Hornsby got married and had three children, and began working for Exxon Corporation, according to the Township. He retired from Exxon in 1982, after 26 years of service.
“I am of the opinion we can never do enough to recognize and honor our Veterans; those men and women who selflessly dedicated their lives to serve our Nation,” Hillsborough Mayor Doug Tomson said. “Let this monument memorialize our gratitude and our appreciation to our Veterans and their many sacrifices.”
