Prosecutor: Suspect Caught With $10,000 of Heroin on Route 22 West

The suspect was carrying 457 folds of heroin valued at nearly $10,000. He has been charged with possession with intent to distribute.

A Plainfield man who allegedly transported $10,000 worth of heroin on Route 22 West in Somerset County has been charged with third degree possession of heroin with intent to distribute.

Robert Rhodes, age 40, of West 4th Street in Plainfield, was apprehended during a motor vehicle stop on Jan. 21 at Route 22 West in Green Brook, Somerset County Prosecutor Geoffrey D. Soriano stated.

The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Organized Crime and Narcotics Task Force received information that on Jan. 21 that Robert Rhodes would be traveling from Plainfield to Green Brook in a gray Honda Accord, and he would be in possession of Heroin, Prosecutor Soriano stated.

At 11:30 p.m. on Jan. 21, a Task Force surveillance team observed a gray Honda Accord leave the area of Clinton and Myrtle Avenues in Plainfield.

“Once the vehicle was on U.S. Highway Route 22 West in Green Brook, detectives conducted a motor vehicle stop,” Soriano stated. “The driver of the vehicle was identified as the defendant, Robert Rhodes. He was advised of the narcotic investigation and gave voluntary consent to detectives to search his person and vehicle.”

During the search, the detectives seized a plastic bag containing 497 folds of heroin that was found in Rhode’s possession. Rhodes was placed under arrest without incident.

The estimated street value of the heroin is approximately $9.940. Rhodes has been charged with third degree Possession of Heroin with Intent to Distribute, and lodged in the Somerset County Jail.
