HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — Route 206 construction in Hillsborough will continue with lane closures expected on Friday and Saturday.

Beginning at 8 p.m. on Friday until 6 a.m. on Saturday, the left lane on Route 206 northbound is scheduled to be closed approaching the Falcon Road/Triangle Road intersection. One lane will be maintained.

The closures are necessary to restripe Route 206 northbound, Falcon Road, and Triangle Road to change the lane configuration at the intersection to allow for work on a new ramp from Route 206 southbound to Triangle Road/Falcon Road eastbound, said the New Jersey Department of Transportation.

By 6 a.m. Saturday, the intersection will be in the following configuration through the spring:

  • Route 206 northbound – a dedicated left turn lane will be added resulting in four lanes at the intersection: a dedicated left turn lane, two through lanes, and a dedicated right turn lane
  • Falcon Road - three out of four lanes at the intersection will be closed leaving one lane with all movements permitted (left turn, right turn, and straight)
  • Triangle Road eastbound - one dedicated left turn lane will be removed, leaving three lanes: a dedicated left turn lane, one through lane, and a dedicated right turn lane
  • Triangle Road westbound – a second lane will be added from the Route 206 intersection

The federally-funded Route 206, Doctors Way to Valley Road project will create two travel lanes in each direction of Route 206 between Doctors Way and Valley Road, enhance safety and ease traffic congestion.

The project will also include the construction of a new median barrier which will eliminate left turns to and from properties located along the highway and will direct turns onto newly signalized intersections, and jughandles. NJDOT said this will reduce turn-related crashes and optimize traffic flow.
