Raritan Valley Community College is going global.

The college has signed its first international transfer agreement with the University of Greenwich in the United Kingdom. The agreement will open opportunities for RVCC graduates to transfer to the London-based university that educates students from more than 140 countries.

“This agreement marks a milestone for the College and a tremendous opportunity for our graduates to study abroad at a university that is renowned for its teaching excellence,” said James B. Ventantonio, RVCC Interim President. “This is the first of what we expect to be a number of articulation agreements with highly regarded universities outside of the United States.”

Associate Degree graduates will have the opportunity to transfer into dozens of Greenwich programs in business, liberal arts, computing and math. RVCC students will study in London for two years and gain a degree from the University of Greenwich.

A recent survey of U.S.firms by Ipsos Public Affairs found that 56 percent of employment recruiters considered degrees earned in the United Kingsdom equal to similar degrees in the United States  and 17 percent considered them higher.

The Greenwich agreement is the newest addition to the list of more than 70 agreements that RVCC has with four-year colleges and universities in New Jersey and across the United States. These include Cornell University, The College of New Jersey, Rochester Institute of Technology and the School of Visual Arts.

RVCC also is in the process of finalizing its second international agreement with the American University in Paris, which is expected to be signed this fall.

The University of Greenwich in London is a full portfolio British university that is very popular with international students from over 140 countries. Twenty percent of the enrollment is not British.

The university is housed in the former buildings of the British Naval College, a UNESCO World heritage site. Yet the programs and lecturers are cutting edge: the Sunday Times ranked Greenwich the “Best University in London for Teaching Excellence.”

The university is the closest college to London’s finance district and very close to the largest creative industry hub in Europe, London’s “Silicon Valley.”
