How do you know the teacher?

My daughter's special education teacher for the past two years.

What does this person teach?

Language and Learning Disabilities classroom grades 2 through 4.

Why do you believe the teacher should be recognized or honored?

Mrs. Alvarez goes above and beyond for her small classroom of students everyday. The aids who work in her classroom fully support her and acknowledge her expertise which is an amazing thing to be recognized not only by students, parents, but also your colleagues. She plans fun days for her students throughout the school year to help them utilize their skills they are learning. For instance one of my daughters favorites is Disney Day, full of using pretend Disney money to purchase tickets, souvenirs, treats while using subtraction strategies to stay within budget. But most of all Mrs. Alvarez cares deeply for every one of her students. She knows their ins and outs, strategies to help calm them, keep them on track, and to help them succeed. My daughter specifically wants to thank her for the best two years of school she has ever had. She will miss her iRUN partner next year as she moves into 5th grade. The past two years Mrs. Alvarez has helped aid 1:1 with her so she could participate in the after school program on her own personal time. She is a huge advocate of inclusion and helping the specialty education community be present at the school she teaches. Thank you Mrs. Alvarez!

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the teacher?

Mrs. Alvarez is an advocate for inclusion and is constantly trying to find ways to push for special education students to find a place within the general education classrooms. Some examples that come to mind; 4th grade functions, field trips, school music concerts, vocabulary parades, girls lunch bunch groups, iRUN, 3rd grade wax museum, and science fair projects.
