Hoboken Flood Pump Station Plan Passes
The Hoboken flood mitigation plan received enough votes from for approval from the City Council.

The Hoboken City Council voted in favor of plans for an H-5 wet weather pump, gaining the 2/3rds majority needed for approval.
The city council held a special meeting on Monday, Feb. 23, voting 7-2 in favor of the wet weather station, according hmag.com.
The Hoboken City Council voted 5-2 in favor of the wet weather pump on Feb. 18, failing to achieve the six votes needed to pass, but two council members were absent from the vote. Hoboken Mayor Dawn Zimmer subsequently called for a special meeting allowing all members of the council to vote on the H-5 wet weather pump station.

In December 2014, the Hoboken City Council voted unanimously in favor of funding construction of the flood pump, but failed to receive the required number of votes to approve the pump until Monday night’s meeting.
According to the City of Hoboken, the pump will be financed by an $11.9 million low-interest loan from the New Jersey Environmental Infrastructure Trust, including 19 percent principal forgiveness. The city said the 40 million gallon per day H-5 wet weather pump station with emergency generator will alleviate flooding in western Hoboken – including the area around ShopRite, located at 900 Madison St.
