A five-alarm blaze tore through a North Jersey Salvation Army store Thursday night, authorities said.

UNION CITY, NJ - A five-alarm blaze tore through a North Jersey Salvation Army store Thursday night, authorities said.

The fire at 900 John F. Kennedy Boulevard in Union City was battled for hours by members of North Hudson Regional Firefighters Local 3950 and Fire Officers Local 3951, according to a union statement.

The blaze began around 6:15 p.m. in the 10,000-square-foot store and was finally extinguished around 9 p.m., according to Fox News, resulting in a “total loss” for the store.

Fire Engineering also reported “heavy fire” in the rear of the store, prompting a truss roof to collapse.

No injuries were reported. Fire officials told Fox 5 New York that the cause of the fire appears to be fed by gas, and that the store recently installed a new heating system. The investigation is ongoing.
