The holidays are hectic. Don’t get us wrong, there’s great food and good music, and fun times with family and loved ones, but even Chris Cringle hits December 26th and needs to kick his feet up and exhale. It can be disorienting to have your schedule completely upended and routines disrupted, and that’s why January, once the bloating subsides and the lights come down, can be so exciting. It’s a chance not just to return to a normal routine, but an opportunity to build a new one.

Blue Skies Pottery will kick off its Winter session on January 9th, with intro classes and 10-week courses available now for adults and children. Featured multiple times via The Hoboken Girl on social media, Blue Skies opened its doors in September and has quickly become a standout at the Monroe Center with a diverse, welcoming community of all ages and experience levels. The most common refrain we hear from people who have joined the Blue Skies community is how significantly it has improved their mental and emotional well-being. It's a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in a hands-on art form while being surrounded by a supportive community with similar goals: to create and grow inside the studio and carry that pride and passion when they leave. Everyone has their own moment of realization, but for me, it was after a hard day when I wasn’t feeling my best but was greeted by a class full of smiles, a table full of candy, and a piece I had spent weeks working on that had just emerged from the kiln. That’s when I realized Blue Skies was my place and the community there were my people.
This will be the longest session Blue Skies has offered thus far. The 10-week courses guarantee hands-on weekly classes with skilled instructors, and just as importantly, free time each week to come practice at the studio on your own. That combination of group instruction where you’re free to bounce ideas off of peers and ask questions, along with solo studio time where you can experiment and dive deep into a piece is unique to Blue Skies, and the timeframe of a 10-week course offers the potential to leave the studio doors a completely different potter than when you entered.
