Borough Offers 'Irregular' Business Hours, Helping Your Thyroid Heal with Vitamin D
Your daily planner for Hopatcong and Sparta includes news of Sparta's special yard waste collection and the daily sanitation pickup schedules for both towns.

Here's what you need to know for Thursday.
- If you haven't been able to get your municipal errands done during regular business hours, this is the night for you. Hopatcong offers Borough Evening Hours this Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at Borough Hall, 111 River Styx Road.
- Find out about the six different patterns of thyroid dysfunction at a special seminar being held in Sparta Thursday evening. Dr. Howard Prager, a clinician with three decades of experience and the author of "The Vitamin D Survival Guide" will introduce his program, "Natural Thyroid Recovery." The free seminar will be at 171 Woodport Road, 2nd floor, in Sparta. Call 973-729-8000 to reserve your spot.
- Keeping It Clean: In Hopatcong, sanitation crews will follow Garbage Pickup Schedule C and Recycling Schedule B. In Sparta, check with the online schedule.
- Keeping It Clean, Part 2: Sparta residents should know that a curbside yard waste collection will take place between Nov. 4-8. An unlimited number of biodegradable Kraft paper bags of leaves and brush will be accepted, provided the waste is tied in four-foot lengths, according to the municipal website. We're passing on the news Thursday so you have plenty of time to prepare, because the pickups can happen randomly, at any day or time during that five-day period. In order to ensure pickup, all bagged leaves and bundled brush must be at your curb by Nov. 2, a week from Saturday, at 7 a.m. Also, the debris must be in Kraft bags, which may be bought for 40 cents each from the Sparta Library, the township's Public Works Department and a host of local businesses. For more info, call Township Hall at 973-729-4493.
