Drawdown Starting Soon At Lake Hopatcong

The lake lowering is done every five years and allows for repairs.

JEFFERSON, NJ — It's that time again: a 60-inch drawndown will soon happen at Lake Hopatcong, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection said. The drawdown takes place once every five years.

Officials will start draining the lake on or about Sept. 22 so that repairs can be made to docks and seawalls, officials said. Those repairs should wrap up by Nov. 1.

Residents are urged to replace or repair warn out B-Safe dock address numbers during the drawdown, officials said. The signs help improve emergency response time when emergencies happen in the water. So far, 680 lakefront homes have taken place; you can buy a sign for $27 here.
