Durban Avenue Kids Celebrate 100th Day Of School By Giving Back
Durban Avenue's students collectively assembled 326 oral health items to donate via Connect for Community.

HOPATCONG, NJ — You're never too young to help someone in need — that's the lesson Durban Avenue Elementary students learned on their 100th day of school for the 2019-2020 school year.
To celebrate the occasion, students teamed up with Connect for Community to make a sizable contribution to local food pantries, this year in the form of oral health items.
In a release, the school said first grade teacher Doreen Sciabica and school counselor Lisa Schuffenhauer worked with students to gather toothpaste, dental floss and toothbrushes to be donated.

Preschoolers were tasked with bringing floss, kindergarteners were encouraged to bring toothbrushes and first-graders were asked to bring toothpaste.

The school said students used their recently-learned "skip counting" skills to help Sciabica total the donations by counting by ones, twos and fives.
