Free Movie Night, Early Orientation for Rising High School Freshmen This Week

Here's a look at what's happening this week in Hopatcong and Sparta.

Here's what's happening in the week to come.

  • Sparta Township offers its periodic Municipal Night Court Monday for those who can't get their legal business done during the day. The special session begins at 6 p.m. A morning court session takes place Thursday at 9 a.m. The court is at the Sparta Town Hall, 65 Main St.
  • Share some special time with your little one at the Louise Childs branch of the Sussex County Public Library System Tuesday for November Holidays Story Time. Put on your PJs (or not) to enjoy a fun-filled story time about this month's holidays that's specially geared to children from preschool through third grade—but the whole family is invited. The event is free, but space is limited, so be sure to register. The library is at 21 Sparta Road in Stanhope.
  • The Sparta Planning Board gathers Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Town Hall. No official agenda has been released yet, but there may be talk regarding a capital improvement for the Sparta Library—the possible installation of an emergency generator for the Mohawk Avenue building.
  • If you want to know what's happening in Hopatcong Borough Schools, you won't want to miss the HBS Board of Education meeting Monday. The body gathers at 7:30 p.m. at the Administration Building, 2A Windsor Blvd. No agenda had been released as of press time.
  • There are still some students at Hopatcong Middle School who have yet to have their student photos taken. Another Photo Makeup Day is scheduled for Wednesday during school hours.
  • Oh, how time flies: This year's Hopatcong Middle School eighth grade class will be next year's high school freshmen. Planning is already underway to make sure students and parents are ready for the change. The middle school will hold a high school orientation for eighth graders Thursday during the school day. And at 7 p.m., eighth grade moms, dads and guardians are invited to the Hopatcong High School auditorium for an orientation session for new high school parents.
  • Bring the family out for Free Movie Night at Hudson Maxim School Friday. The Hopatcong Elementary PTO hosts the event, which will feature a showing of "Dolphin Tale." Wear your pajamas, bring a blanket and get ready for good, clean family fun. Refreshments including freshly popped popcorn and juice will be available for purchase. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the film starts at 7 p.m. Hudson Maxim School is at 452 Lakeside Blvd.
