'Safely Back Home' Event Offers Imprinted Clothing for Seniors Who Wander

Safely Back Home, a program offered via nonprofit Project Lifesaver International, says it can provide additional peace of mind to families and caregivers of seniors and others who wander. The firm imprints a caregiver's emergency contact information onto the family member's new or already-worn clothing, which allows police and others to help if a vulnerable relative wanders away and becomes lost.

On Saturday Oct. 26, Safely Back Home opens its headquarters at 37 Main St. in Sparta from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. to offer its services to the public. Those interested should bring in their loved one's favorite clothing items for imprinting: The cost is $12.95 each for 1-3 garments, $11.95 each for 4-6 garments and $10.95 each for seven or more.

Clothing items typically include: shirts, sweatshirts, jackets, pants, pajamas, hats, etc. Garments are usually imprinted on the sleeve, but the location would be the buyer's choice, the company said in a statement. Personalization is offered in English or Spanish, and phrases such as "If I Appear Lost, Please Call"  "Si Le Parezco Que Estoy Perdido, Por Favor Llamar Al" or "Please Call"  "Por Favor Llamar Al" can be imprinted along with an emergency phone number.

The program is partnered with Project Lifesaver's efforts, which have led to more than 2,700 rescues of wanderers since 1999.  Safely Back Home is going through the filing process to become a government-recognized nonprofit as well.
