Howell Softball's Montgomery Headed To West Point
The third baseman/catcher received her appointment to the U.S. Military Academy, after nomination by Rep. Chris Smith.

HOWELL, NJ -- Vivian Montgomery finalized her college plans -- and her career commitment -- when she signed on for four years of college at West Point.
Montgomery, a third baseman/catcher for the Howell Rebels softball team, accepted an appointment to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. She had verbally committed to p;ay softball for Army as a junior and had signed her letter of intent in the fall.
Montgomery was nominated for appointment at the academy by U.S. Rep. Chris Smith, allowing her to be considered for selection by the United States Military Academy where she will now be a member of the graduating class of 2020.

In addition to playing for the Howell softball team, she plays for the Jersey Intensity National Travel Organization or coach Kevin O’Donnell.
Montgomery was recruited and received offers from SEC, ACC, and Patriot League schools but was determined to stay focused on the path to West Point. She visited many campuses but kept coming back to Coach Michelle DePolo and West Point.

The comfort level with both led her to realize that for her, “it wasn’t about the next 4 years, it was about the next 40.”
Montgomery’s intent is to major in Arabic and minor in terrorism studies and eventually branch to military intelligence where she will become a career Army officer. Her appointment entitles her to the equivalent of a full undergraduate scholarship, including room and board, medical and dental care, a monthly allowance and upon graduation from the academy with a bachelor of science degree, will be commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Army.
