Arrest Made In Fatal Shooting Of Man Found Dead In Car In Monmouth County

HOWELL, NJ — A Howell Township man has been arrested in a fatal shooting of a man found dead in a car in Howell on June 5, the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office said Saturday.

Juan Jesus Mejia Yanza, 33, has been charged with first-degree murder and two related second-degree weapons offenses in the killing of Rolando Acte Mejia, 36, of Howell, Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago said.

Mejia was found dead from two gunshot wounds in a parked vehicle on White Street about 6:45 a.m. on June 5 after a 911 call reporting a possibly deceased man, authorities said.

Investigators determined the shooting was an isolated incident and later identified Yanza as a suspect in the case, authorities said.

Yanza was arrested Friday at his home, the prosecutor's office said. He is being held at the Monmouth County jail pending future court proceedings.
