Pedestrian Hit, Critically Injured On Route 9 In Howell

The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office said the incident just south of the Freehold border remains under investigation.

HOWELL, NJ — A Howell man is in critical condition after he was hit by a vehicle on Route 9 on Tuesday, authorities said.

The 77-year-old man was hit in the right lane on the southbound side of Route 9 in the area of Strickland Road shortly before 5 a.m. on Tuesday, the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office said.

The pedestrian suffered multiple injuries and was taken to a local hospital, the prosecutor's office said.

The driver, who was identified only as a male, stayed at the scene and cooperated with law enforcement, the prosecutor's office said. They did not say what kind of vehicle he was driving. No charges or summonses have been issued with regard to the incident at this time, authorities said.

The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART), and the Howell Township Police Department are investigating.
