NJ Weekend Weather: Storms Possible At The Jersey Shore

Showers are expected through most of the weekend, with a chance of thunderstorms. Tropical storm conditions are possible on Sunday.

JERSEY SHORE — The weather is looking gloomy for the weekend ahead at Jersey Shore, with rain in the forecast through Sunday.

A Hazardous Weather outlook for Monmouth, Atlantic, Cape May and Ocean counties was issued Friday morning through next Thursday by the National Weather Service.

There's a chance of showers throughout most of the weekend, with partly sunny periods in between, according to the weather agency. Tropical storm conditions are possible on Sunday.

New rainfall amounts are expected to total between a half and three quarters of an inch, with higher amounts possible during thunderstorms.

Thunderstorms are in the forecast on Friday before noon and after 5 p.m. and then again on Saturday after 2 p.m. and after 8 p.m.

The National Weather Service also said that minor coastal flooding is possible in Monmouth County on Saturday and Sunday. There is a high rip current risk in effect through Friday evening, likely to continue until Sunday.

"Entering the surf is discouraged. If caught in a rip current,
relax and float," the National Weather Service said. "Don`t swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help."

Although Tropical Storm Henri is expected to hit the northeast this weekend, it's not expected to have any impact on the Garden State.

Friday: A slight chance of showers before noon, then a slight chance of thunderstorms after 5 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 82. West wind around 5 mph becoming southwest in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

Friday Night: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 73. South wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

Saturday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2 p.m. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 77. East wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Saturday Night: Tropical storm conditions possible. Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 8 p.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 8 p.m. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 74. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Sunday: Tropical storm conditions possible. A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 78. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Sunday Night: Tropical storm conditions possible. A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 2 a.m., then a slight chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 73. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
