Dead Man In Howell ID'd; He Was Fatally Shot, Monmouth Prosecutor Says

The man's body was found in a vehicle, authorities said. The investigation is continuing.

HOWELL, NJ — A Howell Township man was found dead of a gunshot wound in a vehicle, the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office said Friday evening.

Rolando Acte Mejia, 36, was identified by authorities as the victim of the fatal shooting.

He was found dead in the vehicle when Howell police answered a call at 6:41 a.m. Thursday on White Street, the prosecutor's office said.

Authorities were investigating at White Street and at Southport Drive in the vicinity of Chestnut Hill Road in the Candlewood section of Howell, the prosecutor's office said Thursday.

The prosecutor's office did not mention the Candlewood site on Friday night, but said the investigation is continuing.

Howell Township police released a statement Friday afternoon urging the public to be patient while the investigation is continuing.

"Please know our detectives, as well as detectives from the Monmouth County Prosecutors Office, are diligently working to uncover the facts of this investigation and will continue to do so," the statement said. "Please be aware this investigation is ongoing and active, and we do our best to ensure the integrity of the investigation as well as ensure there is no threat to the public."
