As summer approaches, here are the best pools and private swim clubs near Howell.

HOWELL, NJ — Prepare your towels and floaties, Howell. Summer is quickly approaching, and you may be looking for activities to keep the kids busy.

Here are our absolute favorite places in and around Howell to spend a hot summer afternoon, including a list of our favorite pools, spray parks, lakes, water parks, and beaches:

Howell Pointe Swim Club: A 4,200-square-foot swim club with a gourmet cafe, an air-conditioned lounge and restrooms. The club, which is located in Freehold, has three heated swimming pools (a 25-meter pool, a slide pool and a kiddie pool), as well as a basketball court, wall ball court, wiffle ball court, open recreation area and sand volleyball court). www.howellpointeswimclub.com/amenities

Candlewood Swim Club: Howell-based club offering tennis courts, picnic tables, Olympic-sized pool and kiddie pool, diving boards, snack bar and supervised play for children. www.candlewoodswimclub.com

Marlboro Swim Club: The community pool features four pools (including the main pool, a baby pool, a diving tank and an intermediate pool) water slides, tennis, pickleball and paddle ball courts, two playgrounds and a snack bar.

Hazlet Swim and Tennis Club: Seasonal memberships are available for the recreation club, which is located in the municipal complex and features four pools (including an Olympic-size main pool, a diving tank, an intermediate pool and a splash pool) and tennis courts. A skate park and hockey rink are also available on site.

Monmouth Heights Swim & Racquet Club: The club, which has locations in Marlboro, Freehold, and Manalapan, has Olympic-size pools, kiddie pools, volleyball areas, tennis courts, basketball courts, playgrounds and other amenities. www.mhsrc.club

Asbury Park Beach: Asbury Park Beach, which stretches for about a mile along New Jersey's Atlantic coast, is a lively, clean, white-sand beach that was recently ranked among the top 25 in the country. Sunbathing, swimming, surfing, fishing, and people-watching are popular pastimes.
