Dept. for Persons With Disabilities Wishes Well Its 40-Year Dedicated Servant
40-year employee receives a major send-off as she leaves executive director post.
In an afternoon filled with tears, laughter and accolades, the said goodbye last Friday to executive director Julie Tatti, who retired after a 40-year career with the organization.
The celebration, a surprise for Tatti, began with a Mass at St. Thomas Church in Oak Ridge, celebrated by Tatti’s brother, Father Stephen Feehan, assisted by the Rev. Monsignor Jack Wehrlen, the founder of DPD; the Rev. Monsignor John Fitzpatrick, pastor of ; and Father James Termyna, a long-time DPD supporter. Music was provided by the Catholic Adult Religious Education (CARE) choir, and Katie Smith, Tatti’s niece.
The Mass was followed by a luncheon with some 200 guests, including Tatti’s family, friends, and residents of the DPD’s many group homes and apartments.

Resident Robert Walker sang a version of “Unforgettable” to Tatti, and several co-workers presented a photo montage of Tatti’s time with the DPD.
The event was capped by residents of each group home presenting Tatti with charms representing their connection to Tatti.

“It’s been an absolutely wonderful 40 years,” Tatti said. “I know the DPD will continue to do the amazing, miraculous work it has always done.”
While Tatti’s paid career with the organization may be over, she will stay on as a volunteer, taking the residents out and having them to her home for visits.
