JERSEY CITY, NJ — A 12-year-old was shot inside an apartment in Jersey City on Friday by an 8-year-old relative, police say.

Police say they responded around 2:30 a.m. to Bayonne Hospital on a report of a child who was shot.

“It appears an 8-year-old family member retrieved a handgun from inside the apartment and subsequently let off a round, striking the 12-year-old in the right tricep,” said a police spokesperson on Monday.

The graze wound was non-life threatening, she said.

A family member brought the boy to the hospital, according to police.
