A group of concerned Jersey City residents launched a volunteer-led committee to remove Councilmember Amy DeGise by pushing for her resignation. Despite limited resources compared to the political machine supporting DeGise, the grassroots group collected over 1,500 signatures while canvassing at the All About Downtown street fair event attended by hundreds of Jersey City residents across all six wards — signaling citywide support for Councilmember DeGise's removal from office.

"We are a grassroots collective with grassroots resources, and our success at yesterday's All About Downtown event proves that our efforts have citywide momentum," said David Guirgis, a spokesperson for the exploratory committee. "Residents from all across Jersey City are sick of the corruption plaguing City Hall and Hudson County, and after Councilmember DeGise's continued refusal to take accountability for her hit-and-run crime and resign, we're taking matters into our own hands. We deserve a representative who won't flee the scene of a crime, live in subsidized housing despite making almost a quarter of a million dollars per year, or abuse her position as an elected official to avert the laws all of us are subject to."

Councilmember Amy DeGise is under criminal investigation for her involvement in a hit-and-run. Since then, media outlets have reported that she has tried to use her position on the City Council to evade the laws applying to her, had her wages garnished for stiffing small businesses thousands of dollars, and lives in subsidized housing despite making over $200,000 a year.
