Fire Critically Injures 79-Year-Old Jersey City Man: Prosecutor

A Jersey City man, 79, was seriously injured in a fire on Saturday, prosecutors said.

JERSEY CITY, NJ — A 79-year-old man was seriously injured in a fire in Jersey City early Saturday morning, prosecutors said.

Firefighters responded around 1 a.m. Saturday to 241 Baldwin Ave., said the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office. They encountered smoke and fire in the basement, officials said, before discovering an unconscious man.

The man was taken to Jersey City Medical Center with "serious bodily injuries" prosecutors said. He was then transferred to Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, prosecutors said.

He was in critical but stable condition on Sunday, prosecutors said.

Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force and Jersey City Fire Department are investigating the cause of the fire, but foul play is not suspected, officials said.
