JERSEY CITY, NJ — Election Day was off to a rough start in parts of Jersey City as several polling machines have gone down and a few polling locations in the city opened late.

Ward E's polling location, Modera Lofts at 350 Warren St. opened nearly three hours late, after 9 a.m. — all polling locations across the country are mandated to open at 6 a.m. Ward E Councilman and candidate James Solomon tweeted, "The polling site at Modera Lofts has finally opened. This delay was unacceptable, and we will get to the bottom of why it happened after the election."

The Hudson County View also reported two other polling locations that opened late, including one in Greenville.

The Rebovich Institute for NJ Politics tweeted that the issues could be due to election changes in NJ counties this year.

"If you are noticing more glitches than usual this morning, it may have something with the big election changes the state throws at the counties every year. We now have an "all of the above" menu of voting options, and an entirely new program does take time and focus to implement," the institute tweeted.

Polls are open until 8 p.m.

Jersey City has 24 candidates who filed and made it onto November's ballot. There are nine open spots on the City Council and the race of Mayor. For the school board race, nine other candidates will fight for three open seats.
