Jersey City 'Star Student' Is Nearly Ready To Move Out Of ESL: Teacher

Patch is spotlighting local "star students" in partnership with T-Mobile. Here's a local girl to applaud in Jersey City.

JERSEY CITY, NJ — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

I’ve been teaching her for three years

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?

The growth that she has made throughout the years is remarkable. Just within a year, she [improved enough on her] WIDA ACCESS Test to be less than a half of an average point away from exiting ESL.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?

That she is consistent in educational growth although she faces challenges of aiding her parents in raising her younger sibling.
