Jersey City Teacher Named Hudson County Teacher Of The Year

JERSEY CITY, NJ — A city middle school teacher was named the Hudson County Teacher of The Year.

Martha Noriette Garcia is a visual arts teacher at Academy 1 Middle School.

The state Department of Education Wednesday announced the 21 finalists, one from each of New Jersey's 21 counties, for the Teacher of The Year award.

"These teachers reflect the exemplary quality of educational leadership that we see throughout our state," Gov. Phil Murphy said in a statement.

The 21 county Teachers of the Year will network with New Jersey educators and serve as ambassadors for the state's schools, officials said.

A panel of educators will select the Teacher of the Year based on applications, video submissions, and interviews with the top six finalists. The winner will be announced at the State Board of Education's October meeting.
