Juneteenth Festival To Bring Live Music To State Park In Jersey City

JERSEY CITY, NJ — The annual Juneteenth festival called "All About Us" returns to Jersey City this Thursday.

The festival is described as "A celebration of Us, our history, our culture, and our future."

The festival runs from 12 noon to 8 p.m. at the Green Ring at Liberty State Park at 1 Audrey Zapp Drive in Jersey City.

"Whether you're here to support local businesses, dance to amazing music, or simply soak in the positive vibes," organizers say, "this festival is where you want to be. Don’t miss out, mark your calendar and be part of something truly special."

Tickets are free for kids under 12 and discounted for seniors.

The National Museum of African American history notes, "Juneteenth is a significant date in American history and the African American experience. The name is a play on the date of June 19th, 1865. On that day, the Union Army made its way into Galveston, TX under the leadership of General Gordon Granger, and he announced to the people of Texas that all enslaved African Americans were free."

On Saturday, in recognition of Juneteenth, the Bethune Center in Jersey City will host Black Comic-Con from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. It's located at 140 Martin Luther King Drive.
