Know Her Winning Word? Hudson County 13-Year-Old Heads To National Spelling Bee
A Hudson County 13-year-old got through 12 rounds to win the county spelling championships. She's heading to the National Spelling Bee.

JERSEY CITY, NJ — Do you know what internecine means? And even if you do, could you spell it without looking?
One Jersey City middle school student did.
County Executive Tom DeGise recently awarded a citation to Hudson County Spelling Bee Champion Kavya Jakasania, 13, from Jersey City’s Middle School No.4.

She correctly spelled “internecine” to win the County Bee after 12 rounds of intense competition.
Kavya will now heads to Maryland for the National Spelling Bee at the end of May.

Sixty-two spellers in grades three through eight competed for the right to go to nationals.
