JERSEY CITY, NJ — After a man crashed his car into a tree in Jersey City on Saturday, police found that he had been shot in the neck, prosecutors said.

The man was pronounced dead a little over three hours later, said the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office.

Prosecutors said that Devon Reid, 39, of Elizabeth was in the driver's seat of a vehicle that crashed into a tree on Merritt Street, near Old Bergen Road, around 4 p.m.

He was taken by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 7:16 p.m., prosecutors said.

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are investigating, prosecutors said.

No arrests had been made as of Sunday, they said.
