New Murals Hit Jersey City's Central Avenue in The Heights

Two new murals are joining the main street community, "A Course in Miracles" and "We Out Here".

JERSEY CITY, NJ — A quick trip down Jersey City's Central Avenue feels like an outdoor gallery tour, and the Central Avenue SID Management Corporation announced that two more murals will join the gallery.

The shopping district will have a new garden appeal thanks to the colorful flower mural by Seattle based artist Josephine Rice. “A Course in Miracles” can be seen at 288 Central Avenue (Galleria Café on Hutton St). Josephine said she learned about the Central Avenue Call for Art by “sheer miracle” as she found out during a quick trip to the area and felt it was fate telling her Jersey City was the next mural destination. Rice is a full-time traveling artist with a love for wildflowers. An official unveiling was held on Tuesday.

“New artwork always helps reenergize Central Avenue,” says Sanford Fishman, CASID President and longtime Heights’s businessman. “Creative placemaking is important to residents, businesses, and all who visit our shopping district. We love art that warms your heart on sight.”

Artist Brianna McMaster returns to Central Avenue to paint a mural on 371 Central Avenue (Bond Drugs on Charles St). “My parents are both from the Jersey City Heights area, so it was a nice experience being with them in their old neighborhood,” said McMaster. “It’s honestly great to be back on Central Avenue, I truly loved interacting with the locals who seem to love seeing the new art pop-up.” McMaster will be painting a fun interactive mural ready to transport an audience of all ages to galaxy far, far away. “We Out Here” will began work on Monday.
