Teacher Sexually Assaulted 12-Year-Old Student In Hudson County: Prosecutors
A teacher has been convicted of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old student at a Hudson County public school, prosecutors said.
JERSEY CITY, NJ — A teacher at a Jersey City school has been convicted of sex crimes against a 12-year-old student, prosecutors said Monday.
Apparao Sunkara, 72, of Hicksville, Long Island, was found guilty of sexual assault by contact, endangering the welfare of a child, and official misconduct after a trial that lasted several weeks, said Hudson County prosecutors.
Prosecutors said that on various dates between September 2019 and January 2020, Sunkara engaged in sexual acts with the student while Sunkara was a teacher at Infinity Institute in Jersey City. The school is a public middle school/high school with selective admissions.

Sentencing has been scheduled for Dec. 12. The sentence will be subject to Megan’s Law sex offender registration and parole supervision for life, prosecutors said.
