OCEAN COUNTY, NJ — It's gray and gloomy. And it's going to be rainy all weekend. So, we can't exactly get outside and enjoy summer just yet. But if this weather makes you want to not do anything, why not skip cooking and try a new local restaurant for dinner?

This is something that Ocean County is lacking - authentic, delicious soul food. Enjoy classics like fried fish or smothered fried chicken wings, served with a side of traditional collard greens or black eyed peas.

Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers

149 NJ-37, Toms River

This has barely been open more than a week, but get there early because it's already packed. Enjoy their array of comfort foods from signature steakburgers to chicken sandwiches and hot dogs. Don't forget a delicious frozen custard to end the meal.

CJ's

429 Lacey Road, Forked River

The former Lakeside Diner has a new owner who is dedicated to revamping the spot. They still offer classic diner meals, along with unique creations from owner Christian Robinson. They're only open for breakfast and lunch right now, so start the weekend off here.

The Barn

1330 NJ-70, Manchester Township

Comfort food for a good cause! The Barn is a community center operated by Inspire-NJ, an organization that aims to support the needs of Ocean County's military, veterans and seniors. They offer American style food and all profit goes back to supporting their programs.
