Lacey Township police said the latest scam that residents reported involves suspects posing as representatives of JCP&L over the phone.

LACEY, NJ — The Lacey Township Police Department is urging residents and business owners to be wary of phone scams.

Lacey Township police said the latest scam that residents reported involves suspects posing as representatives of JCP&L over the phone and threatening to shut off their power if an immediate payment is not made. They have asked residents to provide banking information or purchase a gift card toward the payment.

Police remind residents that JCP&L only sends written notice to remind people of their account status with instructions on how to avoid disconnection of service.

An agent of JCP&L might contact customers in the area to explain payment options, but will not demand immediate payment over the phone, or accept pre-paid debit cards or wire transfers as payment.
