Ocean County residents will have the opportunity to speak with the men and women who operate Oyster Creek Generating Station at Exelon Corporation's annual Community Information Night from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 20.

“It is our responsibility as part of this community to listen to our neighbors, answer questions and offer the opportunity to learn more about Oyster Creek and nuclear energy,” site Vice President Mike Massaro said.

Exelon representatives and technical experts will utilize interactive displays and activities to provide information on nuclear energy topics including plant operations, emergency planning, security, safety, used fuel storage, environmental protection and more, a news release said.

Nonprofit organizations that partner with Oyster Creek, including United Way of Ocean County, the American Cancer Society and environmental groups will also have displays at the event.

Community Information Night will take place at the station’s Education Center located off of Route 9 on Intake View Lane, just north of the plant’s main entrance in Forked River.

Oyster Creek, the site of a single boiling-water reactor, is the oldest operating nuclear plant in the United States. The plant is owned by Exelon Corporation, which is one of the largest electric utilities distributing electricity to approximately 5.4 million customers and natural gas to approximately 486,000 customers.
