Downed Trees, Power Lines In Storm Aftermath In Jackson, Lakewood

More than 10,000 homes and businesses were without power after the storm; authorities urge people to stay off the roads.

JACKSON, NJ — More than 10,000 homes and businesses were without power in the wake of the storm Saturday night that brought down trees and wires in Jackson, the Ocean County Sheriff's Office said.

Nearly 9,500 customers in Jackson and nearly 800 in Lakewood were out as of 9:30 p.m., according to the First Energy outage website. The widespread outages will slow power restoration, JCP&L said.

The sheriff's department sent out an alert warning of downed trees and wires, telling residents stay off the roads.

"Multiple trees and wires down in the area," the alert said. "Stay home where it is safe and do NOT go exploring."

Residents in Jackson said there were multiple trees down along West Commodore Boulevard along with power lines, and reports of a possible tornado in the area.

In Lakewood, the Lakewood Scoop tweeted a photo of a trampoline that had been flipped onto a fence.
