South Jersey Man Charged In Fatal Stabbing Of Mercer Resident: Prosecutor

MERCER COUNTY, NJ — A Bridgeton Township man was charged with first-degree murder and other offenses in the fatal stabbing of a Mercer County resident, Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo J. Onofri said Thursday.

James B. Draper, 46, was charged with one count of first-degree murder and three weapons offenses, including certain persons not to possess a weapon.

Just before 9 p.m. on Oct. 19, Trenton police responded to the area of Cross Street and Kersey Alley in response to a call for an unresponsive male.

On arrival, officers found Corey Jones, 40, of Trenton on the ground in the sidewalk area suffering from numerous stab wounds.

Jones was taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead a short time later, Onofri said.

Authorities detained Draper without incident in Bridgeton on Wednesday. The prosecutor’s office will file a motion to detain him pending trial.
