D&R Canal Watch 5-K Fun Run This Saturday

The event will take place March 31 at Washington Crossing State Park. Proceeds from the event will be used to "continue the goal to protect and enhance the D&R Canal State Park."

The D&R Canal Watch will hold its 21st annual 5K Fun Run on Saturday, March 31.  Runners of all ages and abilities will line up at 10 a.m. to run on a changed course that includes both the main section of Washington Crossing State Park and the Delaware & Raritan Canal towpath.

With start and finish in Washington Crossing State Park near the visitor center, runners should use the parking lots behind the park’s main gate, off Route 546.

The course will follow park roads and cross the Route 29 pedestrian overpass to the Delaware & Raritan Canal towpath.  It then loops through historic Titusville village with views of the Delaware River and returns to the starting point near the visitor center.

Prizes will be awarded to the overall male and female finishers and top three male and female winners in six age categories.  Participants will be eligible for randomly drawn special prizes. The run is sanctioned by NJ-USA Track & Field.

Preregister for the run by March 26 for $17 online at www.active.com or download mail-in race forms available from www.canalwatch.org or by calling (609) 989-1931. Same-day registration for $20 begins at 8:45 a.m.

T-shirts will be given to all pre-registrants.  Same-day registrants will receive T-shirts while supplies last.  Free orange juice, water and bagels will be available at the finish line. 

The run is the principal fundraising event for the Canal Watch. All proceeds will be used to continue the goal to protect and enhance the D&R Canal State Park.  Major sponsors include Bristol-Myers Squibb, Lambertville Station, Niece Lumber and Woodwinds.
