Electrical Line Falls, Burns on Betts Avenue
The wire came down during Tuesday evening's rain storm.
The rain storm this evening (Tuesday, Dec. 27) was responsible for knocking down an overhead electrical wire on Betts Avenue and a tree on Alcazar Avenue in Lawrence Township.
The wire, still energized with thousands of volts of electricity after it fell to the ground, burned for more than a half-hour before a lineman from Public Service Electric & Gas Co. shut off the power.
Volunteer firefighters from Slackwood Fire Co. stood by on the scene to keep bystanders back and monitor the situation until the PSE&G worker arrived.
