Lawrence To Host 63rd Annual Col. Edward Hand March On Jan. 4
This fun and educational walk serves as a memorable experience for all ages.
LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Celebrate the beginning of the New Year with a little history lesson.
Lawrence Township has scheduled the 63rd Annual Col. Edward Hand March on Jan. 4. The historical program will commemorate Col. Hand’s delaying tactic during the American Revolution.
The program kicks off at 10 a.m. at the Municipal Building, with a special historical program followed by a thrilling musket firing demonstration.

Participants will then take a two-mile march along the historic highway to the delaying action sites, ending at Shabakunk Creek, near Notre Dame High School.
After the march, attendees can relax and enjoy light refreshments at the Lawrence Township Nature Center.

During the American Revolution, Col. Hand used delaying tactics to hold off the British before the Second Battle of Trenton on Jan. 2, 1777. Col. Hand and his band of Pennsylvania riflemen were able to hinder the enemy by using cannon fire, ambushes, irregular warfare, and regular infantry maneuvers.
