Mercer Police Officer Injured In Weekend Shooting While 'Protecting Community', Authorities Say
The officer is currently on the road to recovery, authorities said.
MERCER COUNTY, NJ — A police officer from Trenton was injured in a shooting that took place on Saturday night in the City.
The New Jersey State PBA said the unnamed officer was shot around 9 p.m. on Perry Street. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment and is currently on the road to recovery.
"The level of violence officers face in the chaos of the world today is outrageous. This officer was just protecting his community when things changed in an instant,” the PBA said in their statement.

The president of the NJ State Troopers NCO Association threw more light on the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
According to President Dan Oliviera, the trooper was shot while working as part of a task force by the NJ State Police Crime Suppression Central Unit.

He said the officer “will recover from his injuries, as well as an NJ State Trooper, who was also struck by shrapnel.”
“This shooting is a stark reminder of the dangers all law enforcement officers face every day as they risk their lives to fight crime and keep the public safe,” Oliviera said.
