At 2:07 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 16, residents of a home in the 1300 block of Lawrence Road (Route 206) called police to report that they had just found evidence that someone had tried to break into their house.

One of the residents was home about 10 o’clock that morning when the family dog was startled by something and began to bark wildly. Looking outside, the resident spotted a stranger near the front porch. The resident went outside and questioned the man, who claimed he was looking for a friend at an address in the 1400 block of Lawrence Road.

The resident pointed the man in the right direction and the man walked away. The resident didn’t think anything was unusual at the time, but about 2 o’clock that afternoon another family member returned home and spotted that the screen of one of the home’s front windows had been cut and tampered with.

The suspicious male seen earlier in the day, not far from the window, was described as white, 20 to 30 years old, with a medium complexion and muscular build, 5 feet 9 to 10 inches tall, wearing a plaid shirt, dark jeans and work boots.

Betts Avenue – Burglary

At 2:25 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 17, residents of a house on Betts Avenue called police after they returned home and found that someone had entered the house – possibly by way of an unlocked window off the rear porch – and stolen about $750 worth of property, including a gaming console and accessories, some alcoholic beverages and a cell phone.

The break-in was believed to have taken place between 11 p.m. on Friday and the time the residents returned home.

Vermont Street - Burglary

About $2,100 worth of property – in the form of a television, cash and jewelry – was stolen from a home on Vermont Street sometime between 10 a.m. and about 3:20 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 18.

Residents called police at 3:24 p.m. after they returned home and found the house in “disarray.” Police determined that the burglar had gained entry to the residence by forcing his way through a rear door.

Alcazar Avenue - Burglary

At 8:35 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 18, a resident of Alcazar Avenue called police report that someone had broken off the locking mechanism of his shed sometime earlier that day. It was not immediately clear if anything had been stolen from the shed and the resident was trying to determine if anything was missing.

Lawn Park Avenue – Attempted Burglary

At 10:40 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 18, police were sent to a residence on Lawn Park Avenue after the homeowner called to report that he had discovered that one of his basement windows had been broken out and it looked as if someone had tried to pry away the wooden window frame.

The crime is believed to have taken place sometime between 4:30 p.m. on Saturday and late Sunday evening. Nothing was missing and it did not appear that the would-be burglar ever got inside the house.

Lawrence High School – Burglary

A Kubota utility vehicle worth $17,000 and a computer valued at $1,500 were stolen from the maintenance building behind Lawrence High School sometime between 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 17, and the early morning of Monday, Dec. 19.

A school district employee called police at 5:43 a.m. Monday after he arrived for work and found one of the building’s doors ajar and numerous items inside “strewn about.” One of the building’s overhead doors was also open.

Later on Monday Trenton police spotted the Kuboto vehicle being driven around in the city. Police gave chase and the operators abandoned it and fled on foot. While they got away, the vehicle was recovered by police.

Anyone with information about any of the above crimes is urged to call Lawrence Township police at (609) 896-1111.
