Rescuers Carry Injured Woman From Drexel Woods
Woman suffered a leg injury and was stung by bees while about 500 feet into the woods along one of the trails in the Lawrence Township nature preserve.

Lawrence Township police, emergency medical personnel and volunteer firefighters teamed up Wednesday evening (Aug. 24) to aid a woman who was hurt while several hundred feet into the township’s .
Officials said the woman suffered a leg injury and was stung by bees shortly before 6:15 p.m. while walking along the Blue Trail of the nature preserve, which is located behind the Lawrence Nature Center at the end of Drexel Avenue.
A township police officer, two Lawrence Township Emergency Medical Service EMTs and five volunteer firefighters from Lawrence Road Fire Co. ventured into the woods and found the woman about 500 feet away from the trailhead, officials said.

They placed the woman in a specialized stretcher called a stokes basket and carried her along the trail – over logs and uneven terrain – to an ambulance waiting at the edge of the woods. She was then transported to a local hospital for treatment, and was expected to make a speedy recovery, officials said.
The emergency response attracted the attention of a handful of neighborhood residents and other people who happened to be out walking through Drexel Woods at the time.
